Below is a list of resources and links to help woodland owners recover from the blowdown which happened on June 21-22, 2025. Note: these are resources for rural woodlands only. For yard cleanup, contact a licensed arborist. It is recommended that you start with an on-site assessment from a consulting forester to map damage and prioritize actions. Salvage operations are most effective within 6 months to avoid timber value loss.

Aid, Grants & Cost Share


Tentative: Early October Signup for 75% cost share from USDA FSA | USDA FSA:  Emergency Forest Restoration Program (EFRP) - Provides cost share to eligible landowners to implement emergency measures that restore land damaged by natural disasters. Landowners will apply to the FSA office in their county: Beltrami, Cass, Hubbard, Clearwater - FSA Office Location Tool

MN DNR Cost Share - Provides cost share to private landowners to practice forest stewardship. Typical projects range from 3 to 20 acres.

Salvage and Removal of Timber and Limbs


Salvage harvests help reduce the risk of wildfire, prevent future insect and disease problems, recover usable timber, and prepare the site for new growth.

Goal: Assess the damage in your woodlands and then reach out to a trained, insured logger using the resources below.

Safety Tip: Hire professionals for dangerous tree removal; avoid working under damaged trees.
